Fantastic Turnout, Fantastic Results at Acuity Chess!

A lot of our kids have been going to various chess tournaments in the last few months. Their continued hard work and frequent participation at tourneys really shine through last Saturday at the huge 2018 Acuity Chess Invitational. With over 300+ kids participating, the tourney was completely hosted and ran by the great folks at Acuity Insurance. It was a phenomenal tourney – free entry for all, free T-shirts, free lunches and snacks, and they even had board games and a bingo session to entertain the kids between rounds.

14 of our club kids attended this fun-filled event and came away with some awesome results. Individually, Alex Huttelmaier won 3rd place in the 1st grade division (4/5). In the 3rd grade division, both Spencer Graskamp and Grant Walsh went undefeated with a perfect 5/5, taking 1st and 2nd place respectively. In the 5th grade division, Kevin Wan also went undefeated with a perfect 5/5, with Cooper Walsh taking 2nd place (4.5/5) and Alex Chen taking 4th place (4/5). In the 6th grade division, Will Harwood placed 2nd (4.5/5). And in 8th grade, Maddie Weber took 1st with another perfect record (5/5). To get an idea of how strong our kids were at this tourney, six of our kids did not lose a single game (they either draw or won all their games). Pretty impressive!

Team wise, our 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade teams all took 1st place!

Other participants that also did a fantastic job include Nicholas Jost, Jack Strifling, Chloe Chen, Landon Albert, Matthew Malland, and Nicholas Hu.
