Good Start at Madison University High School Tourney

Mequon chess club had a good start to the 2013-14 season this last Saturday at the Madison University High School tourney in Milwaukee.  Three returning players (David Gunn, Anish Kusukuntla, and Anshul Chawla) and four new players (Sanjitha Siva, Nishanth Siva, Kyle Knutson, and Steven Yang) participated in the 5 round swiss event.  Sanjitha played in the K12 division while the rest of the group competed in the K5 division.

The first timers did very well despite being their first tournament.  Everyone had a great time and the group played and reviewed chess games in between the rounds.  Coach Flanders would be proud!

David went into the last round undefeated competing for 1st place.  He drew his opponent and won 2nd place (due to tie breaker).  In addition, the Donges Bay team, despite having only two members (David and Steven), took home the 3rd place team trophy in K5 behind Golda Meir and Goodrich Elementary.
