Mequon Kids Started Off 2015 with a Bang!
Ten Mequon (and one Germantown) kids started off 2015 with a bang at the Goodrich Chess Tourney this past Saturday. In the K3 section, Kevin Wan went undefeated and took 1st individual overall. And with only one other teammate (Abby Trop), the two kids were still able to place and win a 3rd place team trophy.
The kids in the K5 division were even more impressive. Our club kids along with the Wang kids from Donges Bay took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th individually. Yes, the top five kids were all from our club and Donges Bay! Both Anish Kusukuntla and Amy Wang (from Donges Bay) came away with a perfect score and placed 1st and 2nd respectively. They were followed by Nishanth Siva (3th), Maddie Weber (4th), William Wang (5th), and Benjamin Martyn (7th). All seven took home an individual trophy. Because of their strong performances (along with Alex Zhang), the K5 team ran away with the 1st place team trophy with a total of 17 pts (5 pts ahead of the 2nd place team).
Steven Yang and David Gunn decided to play up in the K12 division and fared well against a large field of players (58 total). Both came away with a solid 3 pts out of 5.
