Club Wins 2 Team Trophies at Nicolet Chess Tourney

Our club had the best turnout for a chess tourney so far for this season. 11 club kids (13 including Chloe and Matthias Wong) participated in the chess tourney at Nicolet High School. Archish Sridhar, George Gong, Nishanth Siva, James Gong, Grace Franks, Kyle Knutson, Kevin Wan, Benjamin Martyn, Alex Zhang, Kritin Mandala, and Anish Kusukuntla played in the U500 division. Steven Yang played in the Open division with Matthias and Chloe Wong. Because of the WSCF school feeder rules and this tourney’s divisions are by ratings (not grades), we were able to form two teams with our kids.

First timers to a chess tourney were Grace Franks, Alex Zhang, and Kritin Mandala. Everyone (including the parents) had a great time playing chess, socializing with each other, and meeting other chess players. Both our U500 and Open teams took home the 2nd place team trophy. Nishanth continued his trophy streak by taking 2nd place winning 5 out of 6 rounds. Great job to all players!
