Great Turnout, Great Results, and Great Fun at Nicolet!

The chess club had another great turnout at the Nicolet Chess Tourney on October 25th. We had nine kids (Kyle Knutson, Benjamin Martyn, Kevin Wan, Alex Zhang, Abby Trop, Aryan Patel, Brandon Gunn, Joey Hernandez, and Lauren Sterling) participated in the U500 and three kids (David Gunn, Nishanth Siva, and Anish Kusukuntla) played in the Open. The U500 team ran away with the 1st place team trophy while the Open team took 2nd place. Both Kyle Knutson and Kevin Wan individually were undefeated going into the final round. In the end, Kyle took 1st place with a perfect 5.0 while Benjamin Martyn won 3rd (4.5 pts), and Kevin took 5th (4.0 pts). In the Open, David Gunn won the 3rd place trophy with 4 pts.

More importantly, everyone did very well in this chess tourney and had great fun socializing and hanging out with each other between rounds. Thanks to Melinda Trop for taking some of the pics shown here.

On the same day, Steven Yang participated in the Ozaukee Regional Chess Association fall chess tourney and upset both a 1570 and a 1756! Coach Flanders and Chloe Wong also played in this tourney.
